Dormition
2019
Charcoal and sandpaper on paper
180 x 130 cm
An image of an infant at rest. The latin word dormir refers to the act of sleep or rest. In many ways much of the desire for an artist is to find a sense of visual resolution and rest. A completion of the artwork. The root word behind the words Resolve and Resolution lies not in the brute force of will and self-determination. Rather, these words come from the Latin solvere “to loose, release, unyoke; relax, set free”. Much of this artwork contains sections that are un-resolved and gestural. It is my desire to find peace in areas of life that are yet unresolved. To find beauty in these areas of mystery.
