This work is an example of my recent immersion into drawing waves, the ocean and water. Formerly only appearing in my works as minor occasional motifs, the imagery of waster have come fully at the forefront of the works I have explored over the past two years. My artist residency in Emerging Islands, Philippines, completed in 2022 and 2023 have cemented a fascination with the role of water within my practice as a Filipino diaspora artist. Water as baptismal, archipelagic, environmental; water as a source of cleansing, water as a vehicle for ink. It also foregrounds the influence of sumi-ink painting and Japanese calligraphic and contemporary arts within my work.
