Out of the Depths Solo Exhibition (2019)

Featuring large-scale drawings of newborn infants alongside portraits of Filipino street workers, this exhibition centres on the imagery of hands as cyclical symbols of human life, labour. For Capistrano, human hands are not just the means by which we are “delivered” into the world, but also serves as the vehicle through which livelihood and ‘new work’ are sustained and produced. Out of The Depths continues Capistrano’s ongoing research into the value of manual and tactile hand- performed methodologies in an age of increasing automation.
